About the Topic
Healthcare access affects everyone’s physical, social, and mental health status and quality of life, and barriers to comprehensive and quality services continue to exist across the country and around the world. Recent national discussions around the U.S. healthcare system have given renewed urgency to the question of how we can improve access in an environment with rising overall costs of delivering care, an aging population, and a devastating opioid crisis. We will be conceptualizing access through the lens of a supply-side and demand-side framework (Levesque, et al) and examining how various players in the healthcare industry are trying to move patients from having unmet needs to fully engaging with their care.
